We share the same passion. Art. Therefore, I am very enthusiastic that by taking you into my artistic world, I can introduce you to all the beautiful paintings I have to offer. Who is Babo?
Babo, a combination of both my first and last name Bas Bongers. Babo sound much better – certainly for an artist. Once conceived by a first grade classmate, little did i know that many years later I would name my company after it.
As an autodidactic artist, I went on a journey into the world of modern abstract arts and by trial and error, I came up with my own style. Dynamic and vybrant are two appropriate terms when it comes to my work. Inspiration I get from all sort of things around me. Above all, nature provides most stunning color combinations. Also decayed materials, weathered wood or a rusty fence are for sure a source of inspiration. Also my other passion, the universe with all its unbelievable creations, is an inexhaustible source.
As you are about to discover, my works concists of a few famous styles. To start with, there is action painting as done by my great hero, Jackson Pollock. It was he, my great hero, who inspired me to become a pianter myself. Also German born painter Gerhard Richer is one of my great examples. Combining styles and techniques is an ever recurring thing in my work. This reflect the everyday – a stunning melting pot in which diversity makes it appealing.
WITHOUT ART, I WOULD NOT BE COMPLETE
The interplay of colors, the use of multiple layers, these are ingredients for a beautiful work of art. Due to the colors, there is harmony. Despite the apparent entropy, the work is in balance and forms a whole. It sometimes takes me many layers, multiple paint bottles and days before being satisfied with a result. and still, it happens that I paint over a just completed work. The underlaying layer often is still visible from under the newly applied layer. This often gives a stunning effect and ads depth to the work.
The use of different types of paint, and the many experimenting, enables me to present you this wide range of my paintings. My curious nature will be my driving force to keep on discovering, to try and to sometimes fail, but eventually succeed and keep on making art.

Dynamic, energetic and powerful would best describe the work of the prolific Dutch artist Bas Bongers. His relentless approach to perfecting his craft and his passion for evolving his creative practice is both inspiring and humbling. It was an honour to feature Bas’ work in Curatorial Volume.1, Leaders in Contemporary art, and I look forward to paying close attention to the development of his artistic career.
