Netherlands based painter, Bas Bongers aka Babo, founds himself to be an abstract fanatic and action painting enthusiast, he plunged into the world of abstract painting. Discovering all the possibilities that the freedom of making art has, his work often is highly dynamic and colorful. There are no rules when it comes to what can be done and what not. This gives great joy and a feeling of being completely free.
Inspiration comes from two of his heroes, Jackson Pollock and Gerhard Richter as well as his passion for the universe and nature. All of these provide enough inspiration and a combination of these gives stunning results. Just like nature and space. Nothing is static. Both provide us with the most beautiful patterns, color schemes and textures you can imagine. “Just transferring this to canvas gives a real kick”.
“I paint from a deep desire to paint whatever I think works”. No deeper thoughts behind it. If it works, it works, if not, I’ll have it painted over and start all over again. All these layers upon each other give great texture and effects and eventually something great is coming out of it. I do not see the need for a deeper thought. A painting should be beautiful to start with. What else is its purpose to begin with?
Some of his work has recently been seen in British House and Garden. His work is available online at NewYorkArt.com and has also been featured in Capsules’s 2019 “Curatorial – Leaders in Contemporary Art”. January’s expositions in London’s Bricklane Gallery have been his first and this gave him the opportunity to experiment with his different styles towards a broader public.
