Corroded yellow, blue and red.

Something that has always appealed to me is the corroding of material in nature. Think of an iron and wooden patio set or an old door where the paint is peeling. This provided me with huge inspiration to start a series of paintings – this is one of them – that depicts this corrosion. You can even say a contemporary Memento mori : this art theme makes people aware of the fact that life is finite and nothing lasts forever. Also so with matter. The decay of this makes place for beautiful colour combinations and patterns. These patterns i try to transfer to the canvas. The colours merge into each other and thus giving the impression that multiple colour layers have been applied.
